Breeding Your Boxer

There are many aspects to take into consideration when deciding whether or not to breed your female boxer. First of all, do you have the essentials to take care of the puppies such as time, money, and space. If you believe you can provide these, then the next question is who will she mate with. If your female is AKC registered make sure the stud is AKC registered as well so the bloodline will stay strong and the puppies will be worth more. Once your female goes into heat they can breed at the beginning of the third week. A dog is pregnant for 63 days and since the boxer is a large breed it could take up to 45 days to actually tell if the dog is pregnant. Their temperment will change, they will begin eating more, and of course they will get bigger. All you can do is be supportive and make sure she gets plenty of food and rest. The female can go into labor anywhere from 60 to 70 days. Her temperature will drop tremendously and she will have them in 24 hours. Also, she will begin to go to once certain place that she feels most comfortable. When she goes into labor she will begin panting very hard, pacing around, and some even vomit to clear their stomachs. This is when they are very close to having the puppies. Just be there with your female and help her deliver the puppies to the best of your ability. Good luck!
